Raising Empaths - a Talk for Parents & Educators
Empaths are exceptional human beings. They tend to be highly intuitive and emotionally intelligent. These are our world-changers and peacemakers who have the potential to bring much healing wherever they are.
From the youngest age, empaths absorb even the unspoken emotions of those around them. They think deeply about all aspects of life, of nature, of humanity and the universe. As children they are often referred to as “old souls”.
The sad reality, however, is that empaths tend to journey through life without being understood and often without even fully understanding themselves. They feel alone and different and are easily labelled as being ‘overly sensitive’ or ‘overly emotional’. As a result, the empath is prone to significant anxiety and depression.
I have the tremendous honour of raising two empath children. It is the greatest blessing, but it is also the greatest responsibility and is extremely challenging at times. Empaths require a different kind of parenting, and a different way of educating if we are to help them embrace their gifts. (And there are MANY!)

ABOUT NAOMI
Naomi is a psychologist, author and speaker with over 20 years experience in education, educational psychology and psychotherapy with a special interest in the emotional well - being of children and young adults. With an initial teaching background she has insightful knowledge on the role of both parents and teachers in supporting, nurturing and helping young people reach their potential.
Naomi qualified cum laude with an MA in Educational Psychology from University of KwaZulu-Natal and is in private practice in Hilton, South Africa. She has spoken countrywide and her online parenting courses have now reached an international following. Naomi is a mother of two young children and regards this as a privilege and her most important role.
